Help appreciated - looking for board for my R51 1829 EHG

#1 Post by kubaw25 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 4:27 pm

Hello everybody! Nice to see such a forum around the net. :-)

After 3 years of excessive use my R51 decided to take a break. Some micro-damage in some micro-electronic-path on the system board is causing the system to hang. Booting is possible only when laptop is beeing held under some strange angle (the path is connecting back then).

I was told, that locating and repairng such a broken path is impossible. I need therefore to by new system board for my beloved R51.

The thing is I found it uneasy to determine the part number, FRU or sth for my system board. The instruction (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 53115.html) does not mention 1829-EHG model. The closest match states:

93P4259
replaces
93P4224,
93P4184

but I am still not sure whether these numbers are correct.

Moreover, in some on-line service part shops I've found out, that estimated cost of the board would be $500-700, which actually is the cost of used-but-working R51 of the same or similar type.

I therefore kindy ask you to help. How can I make sure that the numbers I've found are 1829-EHG compatible? And first of all: is there any chance of buying such part in some used-parts store? Or I must be lucky and browse ebay regularly? Maybe somebody here has got access to some broken 1829EHG I could buy and use its system board?

Thanks in advance.

1. Go to Parts Lookup page and do a search on the Service part number afterwards. Planar FRU will be the FRU part # of your motherboard.

2. There are few system boards listed on ebay, see if they catch your interest:

eBay - Auctions.

You can also post in the Marketplace of this forum to see if anyone has a system board for your machine.

I already tried to use Part Lookup, before posting here, but this doesn't find my model (1829). I contacted Lenovo support but they said they're working on it and that I'm supposed to check the site from time to time. It was two months ago. :-(

From what I'm gathering here, you can use almost any board, and the list for R51 is quite an extensive one...

93P3784
replaces
27K9922

That would be my pick though, since it has your graphic card, as well as the security chip. And it would give you a Gigabit as well...

Good luck.
