Upgrading the cpu and memory in a thinkpad G40

I just bought a thinkpad G40 used for a good price but it seems that the intel P4 2.4 is more than just a little slower than my AMD XP 2600 for what I do. I would like to upgrade the ram and cpu but dont know what cpu's will work with this motherboard and it seems that info is a little sparce. The model is 2388CU2 It is running with the P4 2.4 and my ram is PC2100. It would be great if I could upgrade this to even a P4 3gig with pc2700. Is there anyone here that can help me out with some info? I have looked for the motherboard models in the G series on the IBM website but there is nothing that i can find. Any help would be wonderfull. Thank you for your time.
