Keyboard - Occasionally not working, Mod. A22M, Type 2628

#1 Post by tom248paull » Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:16 pm

I bought a used Thinkpad for my computer illeterate, 57-yr. old brother, as his first computer EVER. Now I'm trying to teach him long-distance (KS to PA) how to use it and navigate the Web.

When we chat on AIM, he frequently can not type a timely reply, and credits his keyboard's failure to perform. He suggests he gets a "Sticky Fingers" error window, and implies that if he hits the Return key 5 or more times the keyboard seems to return to working order for a while. (PS He's connected to the Web by only dial-up service.)

Questions:
1. Does anyone recognise these symptoms?
2. Does the error message make sence and what does it imply is happening?
3. What are solutions that could stop this from occuring and improve performance?
4. If I sent him a used, but good performing keyboard from a desk top computer, could he plug it into his laptop and bypass his unit's keyboard problems?

Thanks, in advance, to those who might inform me on these issues.

Tom

A22m doesn't have a KB port but the port replicator has a KB port. These things are very cheap today.

Sticky Fingers is the title of an album by The Rolling Stones.
Possibly, he meens Sticky Keys.

The problem seems software related. If so, then an external keyboard will not help.

I tried Google. Searched for "sticky keys popup" and found a lot, but I believe this is the one you need
This is a message from Windows, which wonders why you keep pressing that shift key all the time. The next time it comes up, click "settings", and then uncheck "use shortcut".
