R40 XGA -> SXGA upgrade

#1 Post by kajencik » Mon Jan 28, 2008 6:46 am

Hello again,
I have upgraded my R40 a bit already, and I also have in sight faster harddrive for it.

Now, I have 15" XGA LCD and want to go SXGA. I have seen quite many 15" SXGA screens on ebay and also here in marketplace, I also know how to switch the LCD. I'm just wondering how to determine which LCD will be compatbile with my R40? Does it have to be an exact type for R40, or will it go with any from thinkpad? Or can I even put in LCD from DELL for example?
X60t - 3GB RAM, 60GB HDD, currently no battery, SXGA+
X61t - 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 1 hour battery, SXGA+ with bubbles
T530 - i7-3630QM, 16GB RAM, 240+480GB SSDs, 3G, Full HD LCD, 9 cell battery

If it's the one in your signature then I think your out of luck with the Radeon IGP330M chip. All of the R40e's are 14.1" screens @ XGA res which will traslate to a 15" XGA. The limitation would be in the video chips BIOS. All of the SXGA+ screened machines have the Radeon 7500 video chip with 32Mb of dedicated video RAM.

Just a quick search on the screen and they are expensive.

If this is for your BDG machine, as I presume, it would be a sweet upgrade...although not a cheap one by any means....

You can only use a screen for R40, nothing else will work...

Good luck.

Yeees 8), I have some experience with dell with 15" SXGA LCD and it's amazing... Now, should I only look for the 15 SXGA panel itself, or also new cable and inverter will be needed?

So, after some research, I think this will be problematic... Acording to the HMM, I need this parts to upgrade to SXGA:

- LCD Cable ASM (SXGA+, wireless 30P) 08K4070

- LCD Panel ASM SXGA+ (Samsung) 11P8312
or
- LCD Panel ASM SXGA+ (Hitachi) 11P8313
I found it refered as hitachi code: TX38D91VC1FAD somewhere

Inverter board seems to be the same for the 15 XGA and SXGA screen:

- LCD Inverter/LED card 26P8400

Ebay lists only a few LCD's and none cable :-(

So, any advice where to get these?

1) The LCD cable, I definitely need the excact FRU, where to find it when ebay lists nothing?

2) The LCD itself: I would like to go also with one of the FRU's, or could I choose other SXGA LCD? They seems all the same, same connector, I suppose it's question of the inverter to provide enough power, so I think, if I'll be able to find similar LCD panel with similar power consumption it may work.

Someone could help me on this? Just to be complete, I need shipping to my country (Czech republic)

if they're none on fleabay, you'll be paying in blood, because you'll be buying NOS parts...think probably $250-300 for the LCD alone, $60 for the cable and inverter, plus shipping...and from what I recollect, these LCDs are different from the rest of 15" SXGA+ bunch, but I have to verify that...

ojoj, I don't want to go further than about $200 shipped for both of the LCD and cable, If it would be as much as you say, I'd better wait and buy an R50p (I'm really in love with the one you are offering now ;-) for me and give this XGA R40 to my girfriend. I'm not going to buy the SXGA LCD right now anyway.
