Recommendations for A31p main battery replacement?

#1 Post by chansonbleu » Wed Jan 30, 2008 2:11 pm

Hi there,

I have a number of A31ps and am looking for a replacement for the main battery (FRU 02K6793). Since original IBM batteries for the A31p are getting expensive and harder to find, I wanted to see if anyone had experience with less costly third party replacements for these batteries (good or bad). All thoughts and comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Pete

I got a battery from Ebay. Cost was GBP35 and performance seems OK. Battery monitor shows manufacturer as "BND".

Long term update. Not so impressed with the battery after 7 months :(

Battery MaxiMiser shows 47.6Wh design capacity.
Remaining capacity is 29.46Wh after 49 cycles.
That's seems a fairly aggressive degradation.

Can anyone recommend a good seller of TP batteries ?

3 out of the 4 of these so called 'replacement' batteries did not work for me.

You might be better of sending your old batteries to batteryrefill.com. These guys simply replace the cells in your old battery and it will work like new after that.

I'd have to disagree with the batteryrefill.com recommendation. See this thread:

If you do a google search you'll find similar experiences.

Too bad others had problems, but they did fine for me.

Given the fact that most 'replacement' batteries don't work in my experience and orginal IBM's are hard to find, it's still an option to consider.

I've been using this one for a few months. Works great:

In battery status I get the following info:

Battery name: IBM-COMPATIBLE
Unique ID: 399734SEAIBM-COMPATIBLE
Chemistry: LION
Power State: On Line
Manufacturer: 4SEA
