Can't flash my A31.

#1 Post by ken3983 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:18 pm

I downloaded the newest bios and embedded controller updates and I can't get it to flash. They are the non-diskette versions. I tried to flash in XP and the system goes black and nothing happens. I tried it in safe mode as well to no avail. Tell me I don't need to get a floopy drive.

Do you mean it just goes blank? No error messages at all? Did it even let you answer a couple of questions before it did the flash?

Does it go blank or did the system turned itself OFF?

My bad....I was trying to update bios 1.10 with embedded controller ver. 1.05. It seemed the 1.10 bios ver. will only work with ver. 1.04 embedded cntroller. Go figure.

In BIOS setup... what is your BIOS version and 7 digit model/type of the A31? Check the details and the NOTE on this IBM site. I think this will give you some ideas on compatibility.

If you are updating the bios with a rev that uses a later ecp, you have to flash the ecp first, then the bios, and in separate operations. I don't remember if I did it in safe mode or not, but I did have to get around my anti-virus, which was preventing the update from happening.
