Cannot play DVD movies.. why?

#1 Post by r2d2 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:37 pm

My R30 (now used by my loving father :) ) cannot play DVD movies. It can however play music CDs. Properties show it is a CD/DVD drive. But once I pop in a DVD movie, I cannot even do a RIGHT CLICK - EXPLORE to see the files in the DVD media instead it asks me to put in the media into the drive ( :? ).

This has a freshly installed XP SP2 and I believe I installed all the related drivers (or so I think).

Do I need to install a DVD player app or Windows media player would suffice? Is there a driver that I missed to install (reason why it cannot open or recognize a DVD media)?

Advise on this matter as usual is highly appreciated. Thanks.
Best Regards,
Rosh

@ms5133 - Thanks for link... now I have a player.

If this can play DVDs my problem is half solved. I still have to make the R30 recognize a DVD media.

Any advise on drivers that would make the R30 recognize that a DVD media is already loaded in the drive?
Best Regards,
Rosh

This player has the codecs you need to play DVD's.

If you still have a problem, it could be hardware( the drive itself ) or the media.

Try another drive if you have one, or another DVD disc.

Its does happen that a CD/DVD drive will only read one or the other format.
