Largest supported HD for Z60t type 2511

#1 Post by pschoggens » Sun Feb 03, 2008 1:56 pm

HI,

I am down to just 6GB of storage left on my HD

Time to increase my storage now that storage space is way up there
and the prices have come down.

One thing I learned on my old PC was the BIOS will only support the largest drive known to man at the time it was made, so when I bought a 300GB HD, the PC would not defragment it due to some hidden portion something the other. So I bought another smaller 160GB HD and it is still working fine today. ( it is a Gateway running ME )

So to avoid the same headache....I pray to the forum, that someone knows the answer. I am looking a getting a 200GB HD

Not sure if there are any brands to avoid for sure, and that info would be appreciated. If there are any for sure brands to use or killer deals known, or great sites to buy from, please share that too! :D

Thank you for your feedback.

The Z60T takes SATA drives. I don't know of any capacity limitation. If you want 200GB, speed, and low power consumption, an Hitachi 7K200 is the answer. Newegg.com generally has the best prices.

I just purchased the Hitachi 7K200 with the 16MB cache at my local Best Buy for $179.00. I think that is an unbeatable price and it convenient too! The box had verbage saying it was 33% faster then the 5400rpm drives and use the same amount of power consumption.

I have not install it yet!
