A31 type 2652

I have been moaning to everyone in the small hamlet I live in about my A30's error message, when out of the blue an aquaintence(spelling) dropped off a TP A31 that he says I can have ..."maybe its got the parts you need to fix yours, they look about the same....."

I quizzed him about it and he replied the system worked fine until it came up with a message about a Bad CRC (he thinks) He phoned his brother who had gotten him the machine who said to disconnect the little yellow "back-up" battery beside the minipci slot.. which he did.. to make a long story short the system no longer boots past the green power light...

Ok I've put the connector back on the battery, (it was a bit butchered) but still nothing.. the hdd light stays on for approx a minute but the system isnt going past this stage...

So I'm asking ... should I junk it and my A30 or is there any way to salvage either system?
