Battery Replacement

#1 Post by mixz1 » Wed Feb 06, 2008 11:26 pm

I'm looking for a replacement battery for my A30/p. Going by the age of these machines, some of you must have already replaced your batteries. Who did you order your battery from and are you satisfied with it? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Try to get an original IBM battery if not new then half used will do it or at least buy it from a reliable third party source or else consequences can be as worse as the following:

After the thinkpad exploded.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thanks for the quick reply and advice, but therein lies the problem. I'm asking for recommendations for a "reliable" source. I am in the States for a month, which gives me the opportunity to order a battery. Back home in Mexico these batteries are no longer available from IBM/Lenovo and I think they were discontinued in Europe and Asia as well.

While I find the FRU number on the Lenovo site, there doesn't seem to be a way to order it there. Hence my request for the name(s) of reputable suppliers(s), based on the experiences of the members of this forum.

Again, thanks for the advice and scary pictures. I wonder if the problem was in the charging curcuit or the battery, but I don't want to hijack my own thread with possible answers :D.

Unsed new old stock will be very hard to find. It is a risk but many used batteries may be ok.

My battery was activated in 2002 and still has 37Wh of the original 43Wh left. Look for those ads with a DOA warranty.

Since many of these A31s are used as desktop replacements, even a little bit of battery capacity should allow you to move from place to place around the house.
