Z61t - DVI via Advanced dock - yes or no?
Z61t - DVI via Advanced dock - yes or no?
I just picked up an advanced dock for my z61t and tried to hook up my external monitor via dvi, but I can't seem to get it to work. It works fine through vga, but dvi would be nice if possible.
Searching through the archives here, at notebook review, and through google, I'm finding a lot of conflicting information about whether this should work. There are numerous posts stating that the Intel 945gm chip in the z61t doesn't support dvi, and there are many others where owners state that despite that, they have a z61t, and dvi is working. Frankly, the picture is quite good from the vga output, but what I'd really like to do is drive 2 external monitors without having to buy a video card if possible.
Can anyone state definitively whether this should work or not? Do you have a z61t working with dvi?
All comments appreciated!

Only a very small subset of Z61t models allow DVI pass-through on the mini dock. (i.e. the dock's own ports, not using one of the big docks with a discrete PCIe card installed)
The model-type numbers that allow DVI pass-through on the laptop's own graphics system, are listed in the tabook.pdf. Browsing through all the Z61t pages in that document, you'll find that under the "Graphics" section it will explain whether that particular model does or does not allow DVI pass-through.

Ah! Thank you - finally an answer - unfortunately my early model 9442-89u does not appear to support this. Looking through my earlier dated tabook there was no mention of dvi support or not for the z61t models - I had to find a later edition where as rek said, a few models do note that they support dvi pass through. Thanks!

if you see some posts above, it used to work with a 19" Acer on DVI.
With the new 20' Samsung it just won't
Same screen will work fine on my T61 with same advanced mini dock..
