True image is my personal preference, but I can't see why Ghost would trash the recovery partition. It should clone it like any other partition.

It wouldn't hurt to format the target drive before cloning, but it should not be necessary.

thanks I agree but better to be sure my main problem is finding recovery discs seems cheapest way to go I really like the laptop but repair could exceed the cost. so much for a good deal

This is a nice unit with SXGA+ LCD. This is a rare LCD but shared with A20p. The MB can take upto a 1Gz P3 although that CPU has a huge thermal output.

For cloning, I prefer Apricorn's EasyGIG II for personal machines. In the office, we use Ghost.

I am really impressed with the quality and want to use it but I need to image then replace drive before it dies. it sounded better before sp4 and ms updates no burner and usb1 make it rough to clone but I'll get there hoping to find recovery discs take care

The Apricorn kit gives you a PCMCIA cable or a USB case. The Ultrabay 2nd drive tray is the fastest and a nice addition to any Thinkpader's tool kit.

There are two other Ultrabay drive trays which will not work in your machine, the 10mm T4x PATA and the 10mm T6x SATA version.

For USB2.0, you can either get a PCMCIA to USB2.0 adapter or a full dock plus a USB PCI card. I personally prefer the full dock solution.
