Help with G40 power problem

#1 Post by Arvada » Sat Feb 16, 2008 12:33 pm

I'm helping with a friends G40 2388-3xx series. I'm not real familiar with Thinkpads. The power and battery lights just flash green. No POST. Power supply checks good. System board? Thanks.

- unplug system and remove battery

- press the power button ten times repeatedly

- then hold down the power button for 25 seconds in order to completely discharge the capacitors, etc.

Try plugging in the AC power and attempt to boot. If nothing happens, then repeat the process but run off of the battery instead (no AC adapter).

Same result. There is also a soft pulsing noise coming from the speaker, about 2 clicks per second. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, G40 machines are notorious for system board failures, and I'd tend to think that you might be looking at that issue.

Posting a full 7-character model code may be helpful in obtaining parts and/or advice.

Good luck.
