Strange POST code...battery issue?

#1 Post by canooten » Tue Feb 19, 2008 4:19 pm

A colleague has a z60m and is on the road now. The machine has been dropped once and since then the battery has had a loose connection, but everything still works. The drawback there is that every now and then the battery connection will get cut and if it's not on AC, it'll die.

Today, he said it froze in Windows and he had to shut it down. When he tried to boot back up, he got an unlisted POST beep sequence (I couldn't find it anyway) and a blank screen. The sequence was 3-1-4-3 (all short beeps).

I finally had him pull the battery and try to boot on AC with no battery and it did boot then, so it seems to be a battery issue, but does anyone know exactly what this POST sequence means?

Nothing I have found covers that sequence. I has to be something with the battery I would guess...just seems strange that this would cause the machine to not boot and give a POST beep of any kind. Seems to me it's either making contact or not.
I know nothing.....

The closest beep symptom according to HMM I could found says it's the system board:

Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Z60m.

Page 50.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
