R40 replacement LCD's

#1 Post by vanaya » Tue Feb 19, 2008 5:53 pm

I was cruising fleabay and found this item 190199396464. It basically states that the 14 inch lcd on the T21, T22, T23, R32, R40 are interchangeable. I have looked in the HMMs for both and the part numbers don't match. I would think they are not. Has anyone done this switch or can confirm that this is possible??

VOILA!!! SUCCESS!!!

I took an LCD from a dead T20 and transplanted it into my R40 that had a dying backlight. The R40 was a lot harder to remove and replace the LCD than the T2x, but all-in-all it was pretty simple. I wish that I had recorded it for my Thinkpad Repair videos on YouTube, but hey....I have to replace a T42 LCD, too!! Might as well record that one...lol

I couldn't test mine because my project R40 mb was dead and I didn't want to mess with my main R40. I meant to ask how many pins does the lcd have? What was the model # on the panel you used?

I have a brand new R40 LCD sitting here with P/N 07K8413.
It also has a Model No. ITXG76H, apparently made by IDTECH.
It has its inverter attached via some metal clamp.
Can I take this inverter + clamp off and use the LCD (like tfflivemb2) in a T23 with a T23 inverter?

You could certainly try, but why not keep the new inverter with the LCD?

The LCD should work without any problems in the T23.

Ah, there is but one small problem.
The attached R40 inverter has a different shape from the T23 inverter and would not fit "as-is".
I'll see if I can remove it without damaging the LCD.
