A30 no external vga signal

#1 Post by mclien » Sun Feb 24, 2008 3:49 pm

Hi there,

my moms A30 won't show anything on the external vga.
I tested the beamer with my TP570 without problems. I chosed different resolutions on the A30 (including the 1024x768, which worked with the 570), but didn't get any signal. I then moved the jack of the vga up and down, which gave me some blincks on the beamer.
Is this any known/usual problem with the A30 (sort of loose contact or mainboard problem)?

thanks in advance

Does it work on the Port Replicator? If it does, then it is the connector on the Thinkpad. If it doesn't, then it is the GPU.

I wish, I have a port replicator....
if itis the connector, any chanse to fix it? (I'm kind of fearless, with the hardware. I modified the modem miniPCI to a ethernet connector on the 570)

You have installed the Hotkey driver already? What are the BIOS setting in the Display section?

Checking with a Port Replicator first is likely best. They are very low cost today.

Failing that, the A30/A31 uses a surface mounted VGA connector. You can try reheating each pin with a fine tip soldering iron.

I think there are none for GNU/Linux. But that shouldn't be a problem, because it worked once (couple of month ago)

Boot display: both
Default prim. Display: tried both AGP and PCI

I'll be back with results...
Thanks for all hints

After testing negativ with port replocator, I tried another Linux Distro (PuppyLinux), which doesn't gave me the best screen resolution (1024x768 instead of 1400x1050), but the external vag worked.
So I guess, I'll have to open a new thread in the OS section to find the problem (think it's a problem with the ati drivers)

With Linux, you tend to have to use a proprietary Ati driver to get projectors to work, and what I had with a different system was, the hot key still didn't work, you had to boot the system with the projector connected to get it to work.
