R50 Access IBM Issues

#1 Post by ARD » Sat Mar 01, 2008 6:08 pm

I have searched the forums for any relevant topics, but I haven't
found any that can help.

I have a used R50 1830-6FU that runs rather nicely with XP SP2.
I have updated all the drivers and software from Lenovo.
Everything appears to run well except for Access IBM, which starts up normally but then displays a blank window with no response to clicking on the links on the upper section of the window.
ALT keys does not do anything as well.
I can right click on the logo on the upper left. That works.
I can quit AI with no problems.
AI does not hang, it just does nothing.
Has anyone come across this problem?
Thanks.

Axel

Access IBM has been replaced by Thinkvantage system update.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't see a Thinkvantage for the R50 in the matrix.
I only see Access IBM for it.
I have the latest version of SU.

Thinkvantage is a suite of tools (same as access IBM was), including SU 3. It is not an installable application. If you install any of the Thinkvantage utilities, they put themselves in a Thinkvantage folder on your start menu, which is where you would find the SU 3 start icon. There should be a Thinkvantage utility to replace every Access IBM utility, or close to it. Thinkvantage Productivity Center acts kind of like what you are referring to with Access IBM.

My parents have noticed the same problem with their R40e machines. I am going to try System Update 3.13.

Update: It didn't work. Supposedly Productivity Center doesn't support R40e.

Any suggestions on a fix for Access IBM?

I think that's the same problem I had after I had installed the latest
two Adobe Flash Player upgrades offered to me by System Update. At least,
when I used Rescue and Recovery to restore my system to a point before
I had installed them, Access IBM worked again as before.

I now have Adobe Flash Player 9.0.47.0 ActiveX and Plugin installed. I
believe the version I associate with the Access IBM problem was version
9.0.115.0.

Someone on the ThinkPad Mailing List wrote that Adobe Flash could not
have caused this problem, but I'm not going to re-install the later
versions to find out for sure.
