iPod and Thinkpad R40 - Firewire problem

#1 Post by thinkpadlover07 » Sat Dec 04, 2004 12:16 pm

When I connect my iPod 2nd gen (scroll wheel) to the R40 by Firewire (the iPod doesn't have USB), it is not recognized by Windows (or iTunes or any 3rd party software - nothing). However, in Device Manager, under IEEE 1394 Bus host Controllers, my "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" is listed as working fine (no yellow exclamation point next to it); it's "working properly." However, I do NOT see "1394 Net Adapter" under "Network Adapters," and I think that needs to be there for the iPod to be recognized. I try plugging in my iPod, but each time, Windows doesn't even know it's there, nothing happens! I've tried connecting the iPod to a Dell laptop (same 4-pin Firewire connector), and Windows picks it up fine as an external HDD. The Dell laptop had the "1394 Net Adapter" listed in Device Manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstallling the 1394 Host Controller, but Windows never installs the corresponding 1394 Net Adapter. Help! :?

this was actually a problem with the firewire port on the thinkpad itself, so I ez-served it and good as new! a new motherboard totally covers the extra cost of the 3-yr warranty! haha!!
