R40 Ethernet Trouble

#1 Post by Raine » Wed Mar 12, 2008 11:46 am

Hi,
My Ethernet Port is acting up, which is making my DSL connect and disconnect quite frequently. The light that comes on when something is plugged into the Ethernet port flickers on and off. The DSL people left here a bit ago and did some things to the lines outside, but when they came in to check things it was pretty embarrassing because it turned out to be an Ethernet problem on my end that's causing the disconnect issues.

The Intel(R) PRO/100 VE card isn't showing any errors in the Device Manager, so I'm not exactly sure what could be wrong. My guess is that it has something to do with the Motherboard, and I'm hoping some of the experienced people here could help me with finding out what the exact problem is so I can get this taken care of.

Thanks

Hello, I may disappoint you a bit, but I had the same problem with my R40, it was along with malfunction of the rear USB port. I took my R40 to some maintenance guy, it was needed to resolder the USB port and replace the LAN&modem connector, beside that, he had to resolder some onboard chip, which I'm not sure what it was, but I think it provides power to the ethernet port.

They have a RJ45 on the end of the card or a dongle on a cable.

If you had laptops for a while, you may have one in a drawer somewhere. My old 755CDV has one since they didn't have ethernet ports on the system. They are still readily available in retail.
