Help-fried motherboard?

#1 Post by sowana » Fri Mar 14, 2008 7:42 am

I have an Thinkpad R-40 2723 from about 2002. It got some water spilled on it and has fizzled. It can't boot, although one can see the data in the hard drive. The question is, is it worth trying to repair it? Or just recover the data and move on to another machine? If I can get it repaired for less than a new one costs, I guess I'd rather do that. Unfortunately, I have come to Zurich, Switzerland for 6 months and being here complicates things.

Any recommendations for repair in Zurich for this laptop? Or suggestions for a good replacement? I don't want to have to buy some low-end thing. If I get another one, I wouldn't mind a lighter machine, but definitely don't want to use Vista.

Thanks
FM

The only way it can be save is if you had removed power, A/C and battery immediately. If the liquid had been in the machine for a while, it is toast.

If you did remove power immediately, remove the MB and clean it thoroughly and it may work again.
