RAM expansion in r60

#1 Post by joshrob » Wed Mar 19, 2008 1:35 pm

I'm also thinking of maybe adding some RAM to my 9461-54G R60.

What kind of RAM chips (MHz? non-ecc? dual-channel? other stuff?) should I be interested in?

Regards,

The R60 uses PC5300 or 667MHz memory. Dual channel offers a very modest performance increase. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. The important thing is to get more memory.

Thanks. Any particular, not-BSOD-prone vendor you can recommend for thinkpads?

and

Which is the better/offers better performance? higher frequency or lower CAS latency?

Buy higher frequency will not improve performance but will make sure the RAM will work in your system.

The system will utilize lower CL when it is available and performance will improve.

One more question if I may...

Did anyone try to put 3gigs into this or similar R60?

I remember that in old days mixing RAM chips' capacity (2GB with 1GB in this case) often caused problems...
