R51 Partition drive Question

#1 Post by sentosa » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:18 am

Ive got my second hand R51 comeing today , when i get it i want to rip out the XP on it and install my own XP pro setup on it.
Its got a 60 gig hard drive that i want to partition with partition majic 8 . Can someone tell me the procedure for keeping the hiden partition with all the files that you use for help and onboard manuals
ect. I dont want to loose this feature by wipeing them when i partiton
the drive. Is it also possable to remake the hiden drive and reinstall
all the programs that came with the unit from factory.
Thanks Dean New Zealand

Just let the XP installer format and or partition the drive. No need to use Part. Magic. Just be careful not to delete or format the 5GB or so service partition.

How about just making a set of recovery discs first and then you can always go back to the factory setup by running the discs. Then it won't matter what happens to the partitions.

There's a BIOS setting that does stuff to hide or protect that partition. I don't understand entierly what it does but it might be worth your while to look into that... or not.
I backed up my special partition by upgrading my hard-drive and keeping the old one around. :-)
