Help Troubleshooting: R40 (2682-3MU)

Hey everyone! Great forum you've got here. For a year and a half, I've had a Thinkpad R40, which has worked flawlessly until now.

Last week, I started my computer and ran into a dos-style screen that said something about DCHP, which I found strange because doesn't that have to do with routers? A few hours later, the computer would power on but nothing appeared on the screen and I don't think I heard the HDD initialize properly.

Since then I've backed up my data successfully using an external HDD enclosure (so I know it's functioning). Also tried a few common fixes like replacing the backup battery and even purchased new memory. I made sure all visible connections were tight as well.

If anyone can provide feedback or suggestions, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks!!

After more reading and research, it looks like I'm most likely suffering from the "blackout" issue involving the GPU. I see there's a YouTube video that details the problem and a potential fix, but this isn't a sure thing. Looks like I might have to part ways.
