G41 locking up

#1 Post by JSexton » Thu Mar 27, 2008 8:07 pm

My g41 locks up after less than a minute of use, to the point where I have to use the power button to hard cycle it. I've used mobmeter to confirm that it's not overheating. It happens when I boot to the HD, but it also happens when I'm just booting to the BIOS as well. It happens whether I'm on battery or AC adapter. Tried re-seating RAM already.

Any ideas?

Try booting it from a Linux LiveCD, maybe that'll isolate the problem.

Welcome to the forum!

I'd begin with removing the hard drive physically, along with mini PCI card, and seeing whether it behaves any different.

If not, try (I understand it's locking, but I'd give it a shot) running a PC-Doctor diskette on it and look for any faults.

Does the system log show anything when the machine locks?

Is your model with Nvidia card or integrated graphics?
