Wont work?

#1 Post by 90base » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:02 am

Hello, I have a Thinkpad R52 1858-CTO. The charger quit working a while back So i made one out of a dell charger and it worked forever. My step dad tripped on the cord and broke the plug on the end of the charger. So he cut one of of something else and used it, he said it worked for a while but it kept beeping like it was being plugged in and unplugged. He left where he spliced the new wires in bare and I think that they may have touched. Now after this happened I used the computer it would still turn on but it would n ot charge. I bought a new Charger (oem Lenovo) and a new power jack. Still to no avail. The battery is dead now so the computer wont turn on at all. But if the batter was charged it would turn on and work. What is wrong with my computer!?

Thanks

Brandon

Brandon, It sounds like the charging circuitry is shot due to using an improper or defective AC adapter. Unfortunately that fix would require systemboard replacement or repair.

I was looking on here about the fuses for the T41 I think it was, I found that fuse on my board and tested it with an ohmmeter. I was coming up with nothing, I pulled that fuse and put a bead of solder there, and that fixed the problem, thanks

I'm glad that you fixed it, but putting a bead of solder in place of a fuse creates a potential fire hazard if there is ever a surge at the power input again. Suggest you look for the replacement fuse and use it in another proper repair. Good luck.

If you can send me a photo/scan of the fuse in question I might be able to point you in the right direction for a replacement. I've found a couple of fuses for the T23 motherboards both at Mouser.com and Digikey.com.

Ahh I removed the fuse, darn it, but If you can find a pic of a r52 mother board it is the only fuse back by the power supply. I beleiver there is something here of a t41 or 42 or sumthing like that

It was even labeled F2 im just not sure if its exactly the same, that takes precision soldering something I am not very good at but there are not alot of thigs to mess up there, I have a little room to work, if you could find one for me that would be GREAT!

Thanks
