Replacement Screen for z61t?
Replacement Screen for z61t?
Hey everyone
i love my z61t, but i hate the screen. At the office i use an external monitor, but it drives me crazy when i'm on the road.
Has anyone ever tried to replace the screen on a z61t? I love the displays that macs and the higher end sony viao's use (XBRITE, glossy, LCD).
If anyone has any advice on where i can source a replacement, i would be most grateful
thanks

Hi,
I'm not satisfied with it for a couple of reasons. First, i think the contrast is pretty bad. I do a lot of 3D rendering in my work and i haven't been satisfied with the display (the video chipset actually handles it ok, surprisingly). Also, the viewing angle is horrible. Just sitting in front of it i can see a gradient in contrast from the top to the bottom, even if i get the 'perfect' angle.
I have an 11" sony vaio as my backup laptop and, even thought the screen is MUCH smaller, the quality is heaps better. I've used a MacBook and a MacBook Pro lately too, and their screen quality was miles ahead.
How are you measuring the color fidelity? i'd love to know so i can do the same.
Otherwise, i can't complain too much about my z61t. If it had a better screen, speakers, and video card, it would be great (I'm travelling a lot more so i find myself away from my docking station more than i had expected- that's why i'm hurting for upgrades). I recently upgraded to a 200 Gig SATA HD, and 3 GB of ram, it runs great and handles MatLAB and IgorPRO operations pretty handily.

I use it for light photoshop work and the colors are pretty close to the actual scene (I use sRGB for most of my printing and viewing - too much hassle with ADOBE 98). Much better than my older T43 and Dell notebooks. I have a philips LCD (1440x900). My only complaint is that it's pretty dim even on AC power.
