Remove one key from A31 keyboard?

#1 Post by Deb Suran » Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:47 am

Hi Folks. I have a dead ThinkPad A31, and a friend who needs one key. I'd rather just send her the key and not the whole keyboard, but I can't see how to get it off easily. I assume you can probably stick a probe in there, like a little flat-bladed screwdriver, and free whatever needs to be freed to get one key off. Anyone know how who can describe this to me? Thanks!

There are two to three keyboard suppliers and each key construction is different. There is a good write up in the T4x forum.

Thanks. Do you have a link? I couldn't find a discussion that described ways to remove keys.

Thanks, that answers some questions about my T60 keyboards. But it doesn't tell me how to remove one key from my A31 without breaking it. Anybody know?

Never mind, I got it. Insert a small flat-bladed screwdriver under the front of the key as far back as it will go until it stops. Gently lever the front of the key up, it'll snap out. I was looking for something to release because I was apparently remembering keys on an older model.
