I have a R61i (8932-A11) which was shipped last Summer(around May,2007) and it has T5250 C2D cpu on it. Now from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_p and keyword (T5250) search on the cpu list (http://tinyurl.com/m3vds ) I learned that my laptop should have socket P on it. Does it mean I can upgrade to whatever the mobile CPU that supports socket P?
My goal is to upgrade cpu to support VT, which includes socket M(T5500 stepping code L2, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600) and socket P CPUs including T7x00 Merom and even 45nm Penryn. Is there any other limitation to this(ex. voltage)? Of course a Penryn CPU is probably way out of my wallet's league.
Where do I find detail spec. about my R61i?
Try SiSoftware Sandra 2008 if you want to know detailed hardware specs, or just compare your hardware to other (and see possible benefits of upgrade). As for VT, check this for CoreDuo processors or this for Core2Duo processors and take your pick....
