Harddrive doesn't work when the temperature is low

#1 Post by csloth » Sun Apr 20, 2008 12:45 pm

Hi

I have a Seagate 120GB harddrive in my R61 and for some reason it doesn't work when the temperature gets low.

On the datasheet it says that operating temperatures are between 0-60 degrees but my HD stops working at 10 degrees (or so).. Then it hangs in Windows and If I try to start the computer it comes up with a HD initialization error - then if I turn it on again it usually works.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and could this be something that is covered by warranty? I'm a bit worried the HD will hang for good someday.

Hang at 10 deg C is pretty unusual. I would try to get a replacement.

After the computer is on for a while, the computer internal temperature should get to 30-45 deg C or so.
