Z61m hiss while using trackpoint or touchpad?

#1 Post by Bro » Sat Apr 26, 2008 5:19 am

I'm having problem with hiss coming somewhere from upper left area (left speaker, processor area).
Hiss sound is generated while I'm on batteries AND using trackpoint/touchpad for navigation. It stops immediately after I lift my finger from trackpoint and with 2 seconds delay if I lift them from touchpad.

It doesn't start directly after booting, usually after half an hour.
BUT, if I plug in USB mouse or AC power, hiss sound is gone.
?

Any ideas how to get rid of it? Intuition tells me it has something to do with electrostatic noise...

Cheers.

Yes, this common problem is known when the processor in the system moves up and down from vairous power stages to save on battery. When plugged in the laptop doesnt do this, hence no hiss.

I started seeing this issue when I got my T60 about two years ago and has been going on ever since for everyone.

We are awaiting a magical BIOS update to solve the problems....
