Upgraded R40 to 2200BG WLAN card, now having issues
I replaced the Intel 2100B WLAN card in my R40 with a 2200BG card yesterday (faster speed, more reliable drivers). The card works fine, but I can't control its power state with Fn+F5 or Thinkvantage Access Connections. Access Connections recognizes that the card is there, but can't control it (Windows is controlling the card). Is there any way to get Access Connections and the hotkey function to work with the newer card?
For what it's worth. . .
Mine won't either. Hopefully someone will have the answer.

I have the 2200bg in my R40, I have applied the no-1802 hack, because the card is not an IBM one, but I think that because the R40 wasn't AFAIK originally equipped with an intel 2200bg card, the IBM one wouldn't work either. Initialy, the Fn+F5 wasn't working for me, but after adding a BMDC II (internal bluetooth card) the Fn+F5 works!, so you may consider it for yourself, these are really el cheapo nowadays, and you can also get a bluetooth antenna from ebay for no price, so you'll have Fn+F5 working & internal bluetooth ability too.

That's true, the 2200BG was never offered as a factory option on the R40. It's odd that it won't work with the IBM software though, since other Thinkpads are equipped with it as standard.kajencik wrote:I have the 2200bg in my R40, I have applied the no-1802 hack, because the card is not an IBM one, but I think that because the R40 wasn't AFAIK originally equipped with an intel 2200bg card, the IBM one wouldn't work either. I did the same upgrade on a Dell Latitude C640 of similar age to the Thinkpad R40 and didn't have any trouble whatsoever. No FCC error message and the software worked fine. Strange that the Thinkpad had issues with it.
