Problem with Battery and AC Adapter

#1 Post by vincetam » Tue May 13, 2008 11:07 pm

The battery of my R32 didn't work 3 months ago and I bought another one. Before that everything worked well. But after I switched to using this battery I cannot power up my system anymore with the AC Adapter properly. Initially I thought I could only turn on my laptop with the battery installed, later on I accidentally discovered I can also turn it on if I press the power button while I am plugging in the AC Adapter at my laptop end (strangely, it had to be that particularly moment, it wouldn't work anytime I pressed the power button after the AC Adapter plug was secured). And the battery charged properly no matter how I started the system (either with the battery installed or by performing that strange startup procedure).

That wasn't my only problem unfortunately. Normally I kept the battery charged so that I can start my system properly. But on one occasion I forgot to have my AC adapter plugged in and when the battery drained to the warning level I plugged in the adapter but since then I could not charge the battery anymore. It went to 0% and stayed there forever. The Battery Maximizer shown that the battery is healthy with the green bar. The battery charging LED is on with orange color. But the battery never got charged. I thought it could just be a problem with the gauge but it wasn't because I couldn't start my laptop with the battery after "charging". Not even after I leave the laptop off for a night for charging (with the LED on).

So what could possibly be the problem? Thanks.

New batteries are sometimes buggy. Many times I've had to remove and reinsert the power cable to get the laptop to recognize the battery. This has happened quite often, so I'm not surprised you're having problems.

Try to be patient and remove and reinsert the power plug. Hopefully, the battery will be recognized and the light will start blinking.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.
However as I have mentioned, my AC Adapter is not normal, that I can only start the laptop when I press the power button at the moment I plug it in to the jet (This is wierd, I hope you understand what I mean. The power button does not respond after the AC Adapter is entirely secured in the jet). I tend to think that the battery not charging problem is something to do with the AC Adapter or any inner components.
I would buy a new AC Adapter, but i hope if any of you have experience with that or know straight away that it is more like a problem of system board or any other components, then I could save money from buying AC Adapter.
