R40 - Bad screen connection. What to do??

#1 Post by rxblitzrx » Fri May 16, 2008 2:54 am

My old R40 is sitting on my shelf collecting dust because there's a bad connection to the screen. Everything is still in good working order, but I don't know how to fix the connection. A new screen costs $390 which is definitely not worth it.

What should I do with it?

I'd love to turn it into a email machine, or something my parents could play with. It's still a great laptop!

Who has made the diagnosis of "bad connection"?

If it's the LCD cable that has gone bad, that's replaceable. And, in case that you don't feel like tinkering with it yourself, you can contact forum member jamiphar who offers all types of LCD repairs, and has been praised by many members here, including myself.

Good luck and let us know.

Also, replacement screens can be had for less than $100 on eBay...

I made the diagnosis myself. I've even pulled it apart to take a look at the cable connection from the motherboard to the LCD panel.

This seems to be a known issue with the R40 since I found several threads and pictures while doing my original research.

I'll try to look up that forum member and see what can be done. eBay replacements for less than 100 sounds like a good idea too.

Thanks!
