A31 MAX CPU (SPEED)UPGRADE? PARAMETERS TO SEE?

#1 Post by OMNIBUS » Mon May 19, 2008 5:24 pm

hallo
i would upgrade my cpu; i've a p4-m socket 478, 512 L2, 0,13 micron, core volt 1,2up to 1,3, fsb 400 mhz, speed 1,6 mhz.
which tha max cpu speed that i could upgrade without any problems on my A31 which are the parameters that i've to see to buy it to have compatibility with my motherboard/pc?
somebody told me that any p4-m fsb 400 mhz core voltage of 1,3 it's the right one ..is it true?
THANKYOU
Angelo

My A31 is running a 2.4Ghz CPU upgraded from 2.0Ghz. The fan is running most of the time now but it works fine. It should be able to run 2.5Ghz CPU but I can't find one at a reasonable price.

You can go up to 2.6Ghz, expect it to get very hot if you do.

Yes, correction; my A31 is running a 2.5Ghz and the next grade up 2.6ghz was too expensive.

I run a 2.6. It's slightly warmer than the 1.9 that I upgraded from, but not nearly as hot as the 1.2 Core Duo in my Dell. If you run Windows, I recommend the fan utility. When I evaluated it for replacement it seems like the thermal output of the 2.6 was hardly anything more than the 1.9.

I got a good deal on the 2.6. A retailer on Google shopping was blowing them out, still had like a thousand left when I purchased last Fall.

Also consider upgrading RAM. I recommend at least one gig and be sure to use matched pairs. I had RAM with slightly different timings and didn't realize how much it hurt the performance.

at last i tried to upgrade the cpu with this results:
with 2,6 P4 SL6SB : black screen, hd doesn't spins, nothing works!
with 2,4 p4 all works!
so my question is: why with 2,6 P4 nothing works? is it the right cpu or what?
can i use the S-Video IN port? (it's actually covered by black plastic sticker)
my A31 model are .
