r60e - Cleanup to improve Vista performance

#1 Post by lisaberger » Wed May 21, 2008 4:59 am

I am helping a friend with her new (less than 6 months) R60e running Vista Home Premium which takes close to 15 minutes to boot up and return control to her. She only really does email, surf the web and download pictures from her camera and email them, some MS WOrd.

So far, I have returned to Lenovo and they replaced memory and harddrive, installed additional memory (now 2 gb), removed some unnecessary programs, downloaded and installed all updates (drivers, windows, etc) And properly configured her security software (Norton's Internet Security).

I am now looking at startups and trying to disable those she doesn't really need to run at startup through msconfigure. My candidates: Thinkpad Easy Eject (she doesn't dock), BLOG (???), Presentation Director (she doesn't do presentation), digital line detection (she uses DSL), Acrobat reader (doesn't need to run at startup), Client Security Software (not on a network), Diskkeeper (doesn't need on startup), Google Toolbar notifer (doesn't need). Any problems with disabling any of these? Any other suggestions. I just want this ****thing to boot in a reasonable amount of time.

TIA for your help.

I foresee no problems in disabling those items. This may be of interest:
