New kid on the block

#1 Post by texasmike » Fri May 23, 2008 11:54 am

Hello everyone,

New guy here. Ordered my first Thinkpad a week or so ago (R61i). I run Linux (Debian) at home on my desktop and the R61i comes with Vista. Will probably set it up to dual boot, Win/Linux. The folks on the Debian forum really like the Thinkpad. Works very well with Linux!

Anyway.. hello and I hope to talk to you all sometime.

Welcome to the forum!
Make sure you create your Vista restore discs before you install Linux. You never know when they might come in handy. If recovery discs come with it they may be XP instead of Vista. Having both is an advantage when it comes time to sell it.

Will do! Does the Thinkpad have a recovery partition?

I'd be surprised if it didn't have one. You might want to make a copy of the SWTools folder as well. It contains all the apps and drivers installed on your machine if at some point in the future you wish to do a clean install.

My R61i is really great. Running Vista SP1 right now. Applied several tweaks I found in this forum. This laptop is extremely durable comparing to all the others I have looked at. No complaints here!
