intermittant boot on A22M

#1 Post by John Estal » Fri Jun 06, 2008 4:37 pm

This machine fails to boot intermittently. When it boots successfully, it has complete functionality. In the failure cases I press the power on button, all lights go on and in about 2 seconds the lights go off except the rightmost light which stays on. I can hear the fan spin, and the HD spin up and do some seeking. but nothing ever displays on the screen. The
rightmost light stays on and the fan continues to run. The battery green indicator stays on. I can successfully turn everything off by pressing the power button. Typically, if I try again shortly thereafter, I get the same failure symptoms. Typically if I leave power off for a few days, it will boot successfully. I have tried to catch the boot up with F12 to change the boot order to the CD drive first but that has never worked with a Lenovo
recovery disk in the drive. It continues the boot from the HD.

These symptoms occur with AC unplugged and running off the battery. I also fails when the battery is removed and it's running off adapter. In cases where the boot succeeds I am able to show that the battery charging is working.

Thanks in advance for your guidance

Thanks,

The external monitor shows he same symptoms as with the internal monitor. When it boots the external shows fine. When it fails to boot, the external shows nothing
