This morning I plugged the power charger for my Lenovo R61e into the wall socket, turned it on and there was these popping noises (it sounded just like capacitors blowing), followed by that burnt electronic smell - immediately I switched the power off - very glad that the laptop was not damage. Seems the charger has burnt itself out, 2 weeks old, sending back under warranty, just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
Worst bit is that I'm currenty on study break for uni exams, now the laptop is useless...

Sorry to hear of your adapter trouble. Hopefully the replacement comes soon. In the meantime your local electronics store probably has a universal adapter that would have the proper plug for your ThinkPad.
Here in the states I could pick one up at any one of ten different stores. I know that Targus makes one but there are probably others too.
