R40 - wireless drivers won't install

#1 Post by userlander » Sun Jun 15, 2008 12:27 pm

I just did a reinstall of XP, and for some reason the wireless drivers aren't being recognized. the wireless adapter is seen, but it has the dreaded yellow exclamation mark over it in device manager.

The laptop is the R40 2897-GAU, and this is the driver page:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46024

I tried both the "Dual-Band 802.11ab and 802.11abg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter" and the cisco Wireless LAN mini PCI driver just to see if that would work, but neither one do. I had an old version of the correct wireless driver that worked before saved on my HD that I also tried, but none of them are being recognized. The chipset driver says Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor -- is that supposed to say centrino?

Welcome to the forum!

Have you unpacked the drivers from their appropriate directories once you've downloaded them?

The path is something like C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint

Let us know...

BTW, the correct driver is here:

that one worked, thanks. very confusing the way they have it listed, because my model is a 2897 and that one said it was for "2722, 2723, 2724 only." oh well -whatever works, appreciate.
