R52 with Intel Graphics - can one upgrade to ATI Graphics ?

#1 Post by indessen » Wed Jun 18, 2008 10:37 am

Hello,

regarding an R52 (1860-5EG) with Intel Graphics (915 / 910): Is it possible to upgrade this modell with an Ati-Graphics card that came in other models of the R52?

Would it be a matter of swapping cards? Or adding the card?

Or is it impossible for sure?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
The only way to get ATI graphics is to swap the motherboard (planar). It has been done successfully before, IIRC. Use the search function above and you may find threads that talk about it. Also check the HMM for proper replacement part numbers (if you don't already have it). Please report back if you do this. Good Luck!

With the planar change, you will need the fan assembly for integrated graphics. The is the fan that covers the Northbridge. The heatsink over the GPU should be left out.

M22-32 and M22-64 are the ATI discrete graphics. 910 and 915 are the Intel graphics. Not sure what the boards without those references are though.
