Persistence Module error message

#1 Post by peisenhauer » Thu Jun 26, 2008 8:05 pm

HELP !

I hope I am addressing this to the right forum.

I own an R52 Thinkpad ( also a T22 that I refuse to part with ) that displays an error message when it boots that says that there is a problem with the Persistence Module. If I delete the message the machine functions, apparently, normally.

However, I find the message annoying !

Ibm infers that is a Microsoft problem, and Microsoft.....well, you know. Both of them are willing, for a fee, to "check it out". I have sent an error message report to Microsoft to no avail.

What is a Persistence Module ?
Is it a hardware or software/OS item ?
Will it damage the Thinkpad if it is not corrected ?
How can I correct it ?
Can I make the Persistence Module go away ?
How can I make the error message go away ?

many thanks for any assistance

It's a software issue:

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=158294

On googling some people claim it's a malware, others say to update Windows with SP2 and some others say it's Intel's "Common User Interface" which can be fixed by disabling igfxpers.exe at startup (as the above thread suggests).

Thanks for the Major Geeks thread. It accurately describes my situation so as soon as I can I will try it. Unfortunately my Thinkpad is "traveling" this week so it will be Monday before I get custody.

If there are any added suggestions I will welcome them.
