Blinking screen on bootup

#1 Post by ni5l » Sun Jul 06, 2008 6:40 am

I recently bought a refurb R-61e from Lenovo and am very pleased with it. It has one little issue that bugs me and I am hoping that someone here on the board can help me figure it out.

On bootup, all goes well. About the time everything is done loading, the screen blinks off and then back on. No negative effects, just the on/off thing. I have never seen this kind of behavior before and am curious if it is a problem or a quirk.

Any ideas out there? :?:

It could be a couple of things.

I don't know the specs of your system but if you
have a system more designed for Windows98
and you are running XP that could explain a little.

When Windows loads it loads all of the drivers
including the video driver. Sounds like it has
something to do with the driver. If the system
is being overtaxed, (i.e. running XP on a machine
barely making the minimum requirements) the flash
is simply loading the driver and setting the resolution
and the refresh rate whatever it may be.

You also might be running a resolution that taxes the
video memory itself which is the same kinda thing....

You also might have it perpetually set on external
monitor + internal lcd which will cause the screen
to blink as it transitions to that setting. You may
want to check to see if it is enabled. If it is disable it. You don't
have to have an external monitor connected for
it to be enabled.

Also, it could possibly be hardware but unlikely
as a hardware problem wouldn't typically occur
ONLY at Windows boot up.

Could need a bios update or video driver updated. Depending on what version you have. There are some updates on other models that are corrected by updates and versions.

You should write some more details (GPU type, OS?), but... If your screen blinks when desktop apears this is solution:

Go to Start -> Run -> type msconfig -> in the startup tab uncheck igfxpers and igfxtray, press ok and reboot....

This is valid only for Intel's GPU.....

Hope it helps....
