R61 and mouse highlighting

We are having a problem with R61 computers with Windows XP. It seems that occasionally we have a problem with the the external USB mouse highlighting several cells within Excel in Office 2000 and highlighting several icons at once that are located on the desktop. We did not have this problem with our A31 Thinpads with Windows 2000. The USB mouse is connected to a port replicator. I tried to have to the user click on the F8 key when this happens and also made sure that the Click Lock option under the mouse options in Control Panel is not checked. Anyone have this problem with the mouse highlighting many items when it is moved? We have to reboot the computer to clear it. Thanks.

go to control panel/mouse
and check is TurnOnClickLock disabled?

I already did that. Click Lock is not enabled.
