R32 keyboard problems after repair

#1 Post by lparsons » Wed Jul 16, 2008 10:09 pm

I did a repair on my R32 a while ago, and I'm having some minor keyboard issues.
The bottom right corner of the keyboard seems loose. In particular, the keyboard moves when I press the down or right arrow keys. The corner seems to be floating in space, unattached.
The right side of my spacebar doesn't work well. In fact, it hardly works at all. I generally have to strike the middle or left side of my spacebar to get a space in my typing (really slows down this right-handed typist).
Do I need to re-dis-assemble my system down to the keyboard to resolve this, or is there a trick that might snap it back into shape without taking the system apart?

Thanks

Do you have all the screws at the bottom of the machine?

Is the bottom RH side snugged tightly under the bezel?

Hello

I just checked, and all the screw holes have screws in them. I followed the IBM instructions, so hopefully I ended up with the correct screws in the correct holes.

And the case is nice and snug in the corner as well.

Did the bottom tabs of keyboard tuck under the kb bezel?

As best I can tell, the answer is no. I've tried to push them under, and can't get them to stay down there. Do I need to open it up (as per "keyboard removal instructions" I presume) and re-orient the keyboard?

Yes, keyboard should be under the palmrest (the end portion). Re-seating it should be your next step.

I finally got around to removing and reinstalling the keyboard this evening (I was recently traveling with my thinkpad and didn't have time for it before then). My keyboard now sits correctly, though the spacebar is still not 100%. The right side of the keyboard is still not working properly, and I'm not yet sure what to do to fix that.
