a31 screen portion not clickable

#1 Post by mmthomas » Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:17 pm

the upper left of my screen no longer accepts clicks from trackpoint or usb mouse. For example I click on My documents and get no response. I click on previous page in a browser and get no response.

It is only an area about 1" square in the upper left that shows the effect.

Any ideas how to fix? I presume it is a softare problem.

Windows 2000 SP4

the screen area displays OK. the cursor moves into the area OK, but clicks are ineffective.

I would suggest the issue is likely with the trackpoint, not the screen.

If the issue is reproducible in Safe mode, then I'd lean toward replacing the keyboard (that will be easier to find than just the trackpoint by itself.

The lost clickabile area is the same using USB mouse and trackpoint. Can you give me an idea how both would be affected by a trackpoint only problem?

Does it happen with an external monitor connected ?

Does it happen with a lower screen resolution selected ?

The problem does not exhibt itself in safe mode. I can click in the area formerly non-clickable.

However when I reboot into normal mode I loose the clickable area again.

Maybe reload the IBM screen driver?

I reloaded the IBM screen driver and problem disappeared. Thanks for the SAFE Mode idea.
