Somethings fried. But What???
My r51 with work fine when the battery has a charge in it but once thats gone, the ac won't recharge or supply power at all. I've already replaced the ac adapter, battery and the little yellow dc plug in the back but still nothing. I thinking about just getting an external battery charger but would obviously like to resolve the problem rather then bypass it.
Any Idea guys?

I did bring it to one shop but the said it was the mother board without even checking and then tried to sell me a new pc. If it is the fuses that are fried, thats a job best left to a pro isn't it? Would it be better to suck it up and pay the dough to do it or try to find a used motherboard all together?
Courage is not life without fear, its moving forward in the face of fear.
Well, if you are handy enough to even consider getting a used board and installing it yourself...checking a couple of fuses with a meter is not a big stretch
. We're talking about basic soldering skills to replace a fuse. You'd have to remove the board to check them...which you'd have to do anyway to replace the board. If you're in a hurry get a new board and check the fuses on the old one when it is removed. That way you can make a repair decision at that point.
I had an IC on my R30's motherboard go on me about 3-4 years ago with a power surge. was located no more than 2cm from the power socket and had definately let out all the magic smoke as it would no longer work from the wall socket, but worked fine off a battery charge.
It's things like this that make me wish they had a slightly modular motherboard in that if the power supply module dies, you just have to replace a $40-70 part as opposed to buying a new motherboard (or in my case an entire unit with a broken LCD/top panel!)
