Ok, another problem

After doing at least 3-4hours of Internet research, I believe to have found
FINALLY a solution for replacing my Cisco Aironet (802.11b) wireless card:

My wish list:
802.11b and g
54 Mbps
WPA 2 encryption
LED function
Fn F5 function
Cheap
NOT PCMCIA

So after reading many threads I first bought an
Intel 2200bg wireless from an ebay dealer but it wasn't an IBM-Card (error 1802)

Now after reading this forum, somebody listed the Philips 802.11abg as compatible (FRU 31P9701)

On the IBM site the card is supposed to be Mini-PCI_Slot IIIB, in reality I found out it was IIIA:

The computer (R40 2681) is supposed to have a IIIb-Slot:

but I think there's enough space for an A-Card to fit....

Why is everything so complicated

Now my question is (after so much work + stuborness ):
Can I buy this card (philps FR31P9701) (from ebay USA 30$) and install it WITHOUT any hacks/problems etc in my beloved R40 and use it with WPA 2 encryption?????????????????

I've been running a NetGear MA521 802.11b Wireless Card since day one and it has been flawless.. Although it looks like this particular card is no longer retailed I see it is available at Amazon for as low as $7 "New", now that's cheap

oh man.. Just spent a couple days on this. Its a software problem maybe spare for people with legit copies of xp? lol. Anyway if your drivers seem installed correctly but your wifi drops you during downloads or annoyingly often. Look into the wireless zero configurations service.

Nightmares.. but my solution among several was to download a 3rd party app to be my connection manager.

mine that worked is avanquest connection manager.. it makes you type in an email to receive activations serial.. i used my fake one.

Any Atheros card will work in R40, IBM-branded ones without the hack.

So the IBM card above will work even if it's a IIIa-Card

If the card is not IBM-branded, you'will have to apply the BIOS-hack BUT the LED + FnF5 will not work...

I bought the card from underclocker, it works as hoped:
WPA 2
Fn F5 working
No bios hack
Compatible with Access connection
Better range then pcmcia
etc
