ThinkPad R61i screen quality

#1 Post by PiZzA EnGiNeEr » Tue Aug 12, 2008 10:54 am

I have a ThinkPad R61i (8932-A11) and I've noticed quite a difference between the screen quality on this notebook versus my older Z61m. The screen on the R61i looks washed out and almost like there is a blurry haze over it. The picture isn't as bright or sharp as my 1+ year old Z61m. Is this a common problem with the R61 models? Is it something I can have IBM support address? Thanks

It is a well known discussion about this screen issues. Basically there are two different manufacturer : LG Phillips and Samsung.

LG Phillips known for better quality than the other, at least that is what i know in several threads (please use search function). You just have to search for your screen manufacturer's code, like mine is : LP154W02-TL06.

Based on my knowledge, the higher the resolution can improve the screen. Because dpi is higher it can disguised the dots better. I think to avoid this issue, selecting 1680X1050 res can be a start.
