A31 15" LCD- SXGA+, UXGA, UXGA (DBU)- what's what?

#1 Post by L. Unruh » Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:54 pm

on aug 12 i posted a topic about thin vertilce lines across the whole screen (15") on my A31. received several good, insightful replys. most focused on LCD replacement.

i have delved into my LCD assembly to check the ribbon cable, plugs on each end, and reseated and "tweaked" the plugs to see if i could get lucky. no change.

i see LCD's for the A31's listed as SXGA+, SXGA+ (LG),
SXGA+ IPS (DPU), and UXGA (DBU).

the one in my A31 is the SXGA+ IPS (DPU). i'm thinking that is a rare animal and i most likely will not find it other than new (much ouch!).
would appreciate a short rendition of the different LCD's that could be used in my A31 and how the various types i listed compare to eachother.

in other words, what are the trade offs not going with exactly what is originally used?

You may want to look for exact replacement, although it's not going to be easy to find. I love the screens on A31 SXGA+ IPS units.

Other SXGA+ LCDs on A3x series were made by Samsung and LG, and are plain TN panels that would not compare favourably to your IPS whatsoever, especially since you've owned it for such a long time.

If your eyesight can handle it, my suggestion would be an IPS UXGA from an A30p or A31p unit. Resolution will be higher, but the overall feeling of the screen would remain the same.

Good luck.
