Routing R40 Antenna wires to mini card?

#1 Post by pt1209 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 4:56 pm

After replacing my LCD Screen I just ran the antenna wires under the keyboard since I didn't have a Wireless Mini Adapter Card installed but received one today and forgot how the Antenna wires were routed to the mini card. Unfortunately the Thinkpad Repair Manual never shows or tells how they are sent to the mini card, before disassembling my R40 I feel better going in with the correct route known rather then guessing later, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I went in blind and luckily all went well, once I got the keyboard out and disconnected the LCD harness I could see a small opening leading out to the bottom of the mainboard, the wires fished out easily and the card install was simple as can be, all is working perfectly.. Now have to see what if any difference in speed and range it has over my old NetGear MA521 802.11b Wireless Card.

Test complete and it was no contest, the new/used Intel internal mini pci card(FRU 91P7267) blew the netgear MA521 away.. With the netgear I could only see my network, with the mini pci it now sees seven in my neighborhood and all are in connectible range, also from our 3rd floor master bedroom this R40 was practically useless as far as connecting to our network but now the rating is between Excellent and Very Good.

BUT I am unfortunitely getting the dreaded "Error 1802:Unauthorized network card is plugged in" message.
Which kind of baffles me since this is a card for and used in a Thinkpad R40(FRU 91P7267).
As of now I can boot in to windows and then plug in the card and it works ok but if I reboot or shut down I have to pull the card until windows has started, I tried the CD Bootable fix but no luck.. guess I have to start an new thread about this problem..

Error 1802 problem resloved, all is fine and I have to say picking up this card was the best $4 I've spent in a long time,,,

Also the reason I got this message even though I knew this card was for a R40 is the Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (FRU 91P7267) is actually a newer R40 card then was available when my R40 was released (I have a 2681, this card was for 2722/2723/2724).

So how did you resolve the Error 1802?

I ran a search in our forum here and found it is quite a common problem. If you run a search here you'll find there is a "No 1802" file with instructions you can download which you burn onto a disk and run at startup, it permantly stops the 1802 error from popping up no matter what mini wireless card you install. Unfortunitely I didn't save where I downloaded it from.. sorry
